Afghanistan’s struggle to tap wind energy – 21 Nov 08
It was in the Panjshir Valley that both the Soviets and the Taliban were repeatedly repulsed by Shah Massoud. Now, as Al Jazeera’s David Chater reports, the lair of the Lion of Panjshir is the site of the country’s first ever wind farm.
WTF did they put all yhat money into JUST wind turbines when the wind doesn’t blow all the time? What about adding some solar panels?
Wind power, as is shown in this report, is only an intermittent power source and is pretty inneficient.
The elites that are in charge of the worlds economical system are not interested in egalitarian and 100% efficient energy sources as this world be a huge loss of power and control for them. But yet pathetic so called environmental groups are promoting inneficient, backward energy sources.
i know…i never thought that wind turbines could be efficient…that dumb fucking American HICK tboonepickens wants to promote this idea but the Neocon pieces of shit do not want any energy proposals that benefits mankind much less the environment….we are losing and they are winning. PERIOD
There are various systems which can store the energy produced by the wind turbines. Also, you can’t compare a single closed system with wind farms which feed into a national grid.
What do you mean by 100% efficient? No system that I know of converts 100% of the energy into electricity, and I don’t see how you can meaninfully quantify something’s economic efficiency in terms of a percentage.
I dissagree, the efficiency of wind power has increased massively in the last decades. Check out the Wikipedia if you want to.
The point is, it was for the Governor and not the civilianry.
What I mean with 100% efficiency is superconduction. The magnets are kinetic without releasing heat not matter which speed the are moving as there is no friction. The problem with superconducters is finding a way of producing them without having to use liquid nitrogen but having them become superconducters at room temperature which is a pretty large hurdle but nothing is impossible. Without friction there is 100% efficiency and all energy is retained, none lost.
Wind power will get cheaper and the technology will get better and the old wind farms will be thrown on the scrap heap where they will create rusting rubbish tips.
Wind power for me is old fashioned,it is time to move into the future.I am against coventional nuclear power but nuclear fusion is an option that applies modern technology that could propel humanity a little futher.
We are now living in the age of 3 immense pillars of science: quantum physics, supercomputers and biotech.Forget wind!
only problem is that real nuclear fusion isnt ready for production use yet, scientist estimate it will be another 50 years or so
Zero friction, but there is still air resistance and so on, and the cost of building the infrastructure. I don’t think that the market system is likely to promote the sort of long-term investment needed. Moreover, even with 100% efficiency, energy would still be needed for the machine to do its job: you need energy to accelerate a train (including turning it round bends) or whatever. However effiecient we make things, we are still going to need a huge amount of energy to continue as we are.
>We are now living in the age of 3 immense

>supercomputers and biotech.
What is your basis for saying that?
Nearly one million solar/dynamo am/fm/sw radios are in Afghanistan today, distributed by US and NATO forces since before the invasion. These solar/dynamos charge only the dedicated internal hard wired battery but can easily be modified to charge AA, C, or D batteries. This would provide a reliable source of low voltage DC power day or night by sunlight or muscle power. With organized battery switching, a “sneaker net” grid would exist in many homes and villages in Afghanistan.
My lovely homeland. i am tooooooo proud to be from this great land. I am very very very glad to see these progresses there. i cant put my words in sentences about how i am happy about. Thank you so much ALjazeeraEnglish from uploading this video. You just made my day today.
What a beautfiul Land. A blessing from GOD.
Great to see progress. Don’t ever give into the naysayers! Blessings from America.
